Swift times dominate Sea Coast Relay

Over 25 teams come out for road race

The 28th annual Sea Coast Relay was ruled by a fast crowd on Saturday.

Twenty-six teams came out for the approximately 21-mile relay race, and all 26 finished in under four hours, including the three solo teams.

Turbo Turtles, a four-person team of Lily Pothier, Josh Musson, Justin Jones and Greg Frank, paced the competition with their winning time of 2 hours, 20 minutes, 50 seconds. Jones completed both Legs 3 and 4. The Turbo Turtles were one of 11 teams in which one or more runners ran between one and four extra relay legs.

Running with Scizzors came in a close second (2:22:30) and solo competitor Bryan Hitchcock came in third (2:25:33). The legs were between three and six miles, with the exchange zones taking place at the University of Alaska Southeast, Auke Recreation Area, Lena Beach Picnic Site and the highway near the Shrine of St. Therese. The first leg looped around the Auke Lake Trail and the last leg ended at Eagle Beach State Recreation Area.

The race (and many others to come) is put on by the Juneau Trail and Road Runners. For more information go to southeastroadrunners.org.
