Submit an Obituary or Death Notice

The Juneau Empire will run text-only notices of death (death notice) as information is received and as space permits. These notices may be no more than 70 words in length, and do not include a photo. For a more detailed description of the individual including a photo, an obituary is an available option.

The information for death notices will be edited to a standard news death notice format, which is as follows:

Example 1

John Doe, 79, died Dec. 3, 2020, in his home in Juneau. A full obituary will appear at a later date.

Example 2

Jane Doe, 87, formerly of Juneau died Dec. 4, 2020, in her niece’s home in Chicago.

For weekend publication, death notice information must be received no later than 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Death notices received by that deadline will run in Friday’s paper. For normal publication, expect two business days for processing.

OBITUARIES. All other obituaries are paid obituaries. From the time obituary is received and the payment is collected it takes about 2 days to publish the obituary. They are handled through our classified advertising department. For more information on placing a paid obituary, contact the classified department at or 907-308-4900 or email questions to classified@juneauempire.com.
