JDHS boys soccer go 3-1 on roadtrip

After losing three home games last week, the Crimson Bears embarked Wednesday on a successful four-game road swing through Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley.

The Crimson Bears won all but one of the games up north, having lost a close game to Service High School on Wednesday. Service’s Hatcher Manning won the ball deep inside the JDHS end and notched the game-winner for the 3-2 victory.

“The guys were really resilient, we played a really good team in the first game, probably one of the best of the state and had them 2-1 with 10 minutes to go and couldn’t hold it,” JDHS coach Gary Lehnhart said.

Junior Kanon Goetz scored two goals in Wednesday’s loss, which Lehnhart described as “really, really well-taken shots.”

“He’s really explosive, each year you’ve seen his game take a step up,” Lehnhart said of Goetz.

JDHS halted the four-game losing streak the following day with a 4-2 in over Palmer High School. Senior Brysen Mitchell scored twice and Ezra Geselle added another.

Goetz and junior Jackson Norberg scored in a 2-1 victory over the Wasilla on Friday.

The Warriors took control of the game in the second half and tied it at 1-1 late in the game. But Norberg quickly regained the lead for JDHS in the 71st minute.

“Ben (Campbell) got it and sent a long ball and it kind of landed between Jackson and goaltender and he got to it right before the goalkeeper,” Lehnhart said of the goal.

Kaiden Wilshusen, Geselle and Mitchell all scored in the Crimson Bears’ 3-2 win over East Anchorage on Saturday.

JDHS now takes the week off to prepare for a Tuesday, May 8 clash with Thunder Mountain High School at Adair-Kennedy Memorial Field.
