Governor announces board appointments from Juneau

On Thursday, the office of Gov. Bill Walker announced the appointment of three Juneau residents to state boards and commissions:

• Sheri Gray of Juneau was appointed to the state government seat on the Safety Advisory Council for a term beginning Aug. 19, 2016 and ending Aug. 1, 2018. Gray is a risk manager with the Department of Administration in Juneau and has been in state service for 15 years. The Council works with organizations to promote safety so that resources can be marshaled and used to reduce menace of accidental death and injury.

• Paul Thomas of Juneau was reappointed to the public seat on the Boating Safety Advisory Council for a term beginning Sept. 7, 2016 and ending Sept. 7, 2019. Thomas is the president and owner of Alaska Cache Liquor Inc. He also serves ad the Vice Chair of the Alaska State Cabaret, Hotel, Restaurant and Retailers Association (CHARR).

• Shelly Owens of Juneau was appointed to the consumer seat on the Alaska Council on Emergency Medical Services for a term beginning Aug. 19, 2016 and ending Nov. 5, 2016. Owens was employed by the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services in the Division of Public Health for 13 years. The Council advises the Commissioner of Health and Social Services and the governor on planning and implementation of emergency medical services systems.
