Opinion: the Republican Women of Juneau should be ashamed of anti-Semitic ad

Shame on the Republican Women of Juneau for using an anti-Semitic trope in their recent mailer against Jesse Kiehl. The advertisement depicts a man, meant to represent Kiehl, putting a wad of cash into his inner jacket pocket. Juxtaposing a Jewish candidate for office, trickery involving wallets, and the act of hiding cash plays up old methods of vilifying Jewish people. A similar Republican mailer against a Jewish candidate in Connecticut drew national outrage this week for its embrace of anti-Semitic messaging in the wake of a rise of assaults against the Jewish community.

Anti-Semitism has no place in Juneau. I trust Mr. Kiehl with my wallet. Republican Women of Juneau, what was the intent of this mailer?
