Opinion: Galvin is an impressive candidate

Alyse stood in the wind and took questions from the audience, and she didn’t duck tough questions.

I was very impressed by congressional candidate Alyse Galvin at her recent rally in Juneau. Almost any candidate can look good in a scripted TV ad or a well-edited campaign mailer. But Alyse stood in the wind and took questions from the audience, and she didn’t duck tough questions. She showed a broad historical understanding of unique Alaskan issues, and she spoke with an empathy that is lacking in many politicians. She is a third-generation Alaskan who knows why we need ferries, why it’s harder for our rural areas to get goods and services, and why our kids need education and jobs that allow them to stay in Alaska. She will be a great representative for us in Washington.
