Opinion: Do we need the New JACC or not?

The building should not even be on the radar.

I have watched the attempt on TV and the Empire to convince the people that we need to build this New JACC building. This building will do nothing for the economy in Juneau. In fact, it will do just the opposite, as we will need to subsidize it with tax dollars forever more.

You will not enjoy a performance from Broadway or Hollywood, but you will watch the talent the Empire devoted three full pages to about a month ago.

With our elected state lawmakers confused on where the capital is, and how to come together to solve the budget problems, this New JACC building should not even be on the radar screen.

If this is placed on the local ballot, it should read, “Do you support building a New JACC facility, yes or no?” You should not be given a choice to vote for the lesser of two evils when neither are needed.

I support subsidizing clean exercise and fun such as skiing, skating and swimming, but I do not support the New JACC.

The other day I stopped by the whale statue down by Douglas Bridge, there were four huge tour ships in town and there were eight people walking around the whale. Four of these got in their car and drove away, so I assume they were locals. This is a good example of what we need and don’t need in Juneau.
