Opinion: Andi Story is the best choice for schools

I met Andi Story the first time my family and I attended Northern Light Church. I chose this church because of its strong commitment to social justice through faith. Andi was incredibly warm and welcoming. From the get go I was impressed with her kindness and the love & patience she demonstrated with her adult special needs son. Additionally, because she attended Northern Light I knew she was as committed to social justice as I.

As a part-time teacher and mother of two young children, I am a strong believer in investing in our children’s education. Because my children attend cooperative schools I volunteer many hours in their classrooms, which would be impossible if both my husband and I worked full time. Although it is a financial sacrifice for our family, I believe it’s a good investment that will pay off in the long run. Based on Andi’s extended work and several years’ dedication on the school board, I know that she shares my values.

As a middle school Spanish teacher I have watched the education budget get slashed every year, resulting in increased class sizes. Last year, our classes grew to more than 30 students, and this year our classes increased even further. The budget cuts also resulted in my workload getting cut, hurting my income. Andi’s dedication to education and promise to fight for a balanced budget demonstrates to me that she is the best choice in ensuring economic stability for our schools.
