Girls on the Run and Boys Run are looking for volunteers for their 10- and 12-week fall programs. Girls on the Run and Boys Run are empowerment programs for 3rd-8th graders. Kids participate in running games that teach life lessons about identifying values, working together and giving back to the community.
Coaches don’t need to be runners but only need to be positive role models willing work with students for one-and-a-half-hour lessons one or two times a week after school. A full-day training prepares coaches with everything they need to facilitate the curriculum and direct a team of students. Boys Run coach training will take place Aug. 27; Girls on the Run coach training will be Aug. 28.
The seasons start in mid-September and ends with a celebratory 5k event on Dec. 10. To apply as a coach, visit www.gotrgreateralaska.org/get-involved/coach. To learn more about coaching Girls on the Run or Boys Run contact Rachel at rachelw@awareak.org or 586-4902.
