JDHS softball survives Sitka’s rally

The Juneau-Douglas High School softball team held on to a win at Sitka High School on Friday, surviving a late rally by the Wolves, 6-4.

Junior Sami Good opened scoring off a sacrifice fly from senior Amanda Bicknell. Sitka tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the first with a ground ball to second base that sent Hailey Denkinger home.

JDHS added four runs in the second inning, with scores by freshman Skylar Hickok, Good, Bicknell and senior Quincy Bates, leading to a 5-1 lead for the Crimson Bears after two innings.

In the third, Sitka narrowed the gap to 5-3, scoring off a wild pitch and a passed ball. JDHS’ Good scored in the fourth and Sitka added a run in the fifth for the final score of 6-4.

JDHS pitcher Quincy Bates was credited with the win for her 2.2 innings pitched, while sophomore Leah Spargo pitched four innings in her save. Bates had 38 strikes on 68 pitches while spargo had 36 strikes on 55 pitches.
