Crimson Bears swimmers place in Anchorage

The Juneau-Douglas High School swim team competed in two meets over the weekend in Anchorage, finishing second on the girls side in a duel meet against West Anchorage on Friday and third among 17 girl’s teams from around the state in the Bartlett/Chugiak Invitational on Saturday. Athletes from 24 schools across Alaska, from Fairbanks to Ketchikan, attended the one-day meet with nearly 500 swimmers competing at Bartlett and 54 divers at Chugiak.

The Crimson Bears’ girls 200 yard medley relay team of Eliza Chappell, Kaia Hamrick, Mia Ruffin and Rielly Walsh won the West race and placed second in the larger field at the Bartlett/Chugiak Invitational.

Top Saturday Southeast swimmers included the Crimson Bears’ Mia Ruffin with third in the Girls 200 IM and third in the 100 breast after winning Friday’s 100 fly, Gabi Kito took third in the Girl’s 200 Freestyle; and Ketchikan’s Kiera O’Brien third in the Girl’s 50 Free and 500 free.

Anchorage’s Dimond High School swept the team titles on Saturday.
