Letter to the Editor: Thank you to all Toy Run participants

A visit to the hospital can be scary, and the gift of a stuffed toy helps immensely to make a child feel more comfortable

Thank you to all those who participated in this year’s Juneau Community Toy Run for pediatric patients. We’re grateful to be able to restock our stuffed toy supply and appreciate the volunteer efforts of all those who purchased new stuffed toys for donation and those who made monetary contributions for the purchase of additional toys. A visit to the hospital can be scary, and the gift of a stuffed toy helps immensely to make a child feel more comfortable.

A special thank you to Abby Williams with Louie’s Douglas Inn, Josh and Melissa Anderson with the Triangle Club Bar, and Kari Reyes with FREYA Romance Boutique for serving as collection locations. Thank you to Bill Wilcox with Southeast Mine Supply, Tim and Melissa Adams with Eagles Peak Mini Mall and Apartments, LJ Alarms, Jeff McKnight with Doak’s Lock and Key, and Keith Giles with Alaska Music One for your monetary donations for the purchase of additional stuffed toys. Thank you to Marty McKeown with ReMax of Juneau and the Vintage Food Truck Court for hosting the final motorcycle ride stop and collection point for the Toy Run on July 26. Thank you to Alaska Litho for donating the Toy Run posters.

Lastly, a big thank you and shoutout to Panhandlers Motorcycle Club of Alaska for spearheading this beloved community event.

The state-owned AGDC is pushing for a massive project that would ship natural gas south from the North Slope, liquefy it and send it on tankers from Cook Inlet to Asian markets. The AGDC proposal is among many that have been raised since the 1970s to try commercialize the North Slope’s stranded natural gas.
