Morris David Whitney died on March 4, 2017 at the age of 81.
Whitney went into the Coast Guard in 1957, and was there for the earthquake/tsunami in 1964. He worked in Search and Rescue in Juneau from 1964 to 1970 and again from 1971 to 1973. He retired from the Coast Guard in Sitka in 1975. He moved back to Juneau and worked for the Alaska Marine Highway System until 1994.
He is survived by his loving wife Katherine Buchanan, sons David M. Whitney and Jon C. Whitney (Siobhan); grandchildren Taylor, Michael, Collin, Kiley and Bec.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 3-5 p.m. March 31 at the Port Townsend Yacht Club, 2503 Washington St., Port Townsend, Washington.
