Thomas A. Reed

Juneau resident, Thomas A. Reed, died in his home on Jan. 26, 2017. A gathering for friends will be Feb. 11 at Northern Light United Church from 10 a.m.-noon.

Tom was born October 23, 1941, in Hillsboro, Illinois. He moved his family to Juneau in October 1970 to begin working with the state of Alaska as a computer programmer. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service from 1973-1981. Upon returning to state service, he was the mailroom supervisor and worked with the Alaska Marine Highway System. After retiring he worked at Alaska Airlines and other local agencies.

Tom served in the U.S. Air Force from 1959-1963 and the Alaska National Guard during the 1970s. He was honorably discharged from both.

He enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, fishing, bowling, bingo, playing cards and had a love for dogs.

Tom is survived by daughters Beth Andes-Young (Tim Young), Wisconsin; Lori Buzzell (Teil), Juneau; grandchildren Danti and Tyne Andes, Wisconsin; Teilhard Buzzell, Juneau; and brother Jerry Reed, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by a stillborn son, Thomas Andrew Reed, Jr. and parents James and Martha Reed.

Tom’s remains will be inurned at Sunnyside Cemetery in Sorento, Illinois next to his parents.
