Woman dies after being struck by car

Police say it happened at 12:16 a.m. Saturday at the McNugget Intersection.

A 59-year-old Juneau woman died shortly after midnight Saturday after being struck by a vehicle at Egan Drive and Glacier Highway, according Juneau Police Department.

At about 12:16 a.m. police received a call about a pedestrian who was struck by a car at what’s commonly called the McNugget Intersection for its proximity to McDonald’s and the Nugget Mall, according to police. JPD and Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to the scene and confirmed the pedestrian was deceased.

The woman was not identified as police have yet to notify her next of kin, according to JPD.

The inbound lane of Egan Drive was closed while police conducted a crash investigation.

According to police, a preliminary investigation found an 18-year-old woman was traveling inbound on Egan at the intersection, and the 59-year-old woman was crossing the inbound lane of Egan when she was struck by the car.

The driver, who police did not identify, stopped at the scene, according to police. JPD did not announce charges related to the case, which remains under investigation.
