An early-morning vehicle fire at a Juneau boat harbor is being investigated as arson, Capital City Fire/Rescue Assistant Fire Chief Ed Quinto said in a press release.

At about 3 a.m. Thursday, CCFR responded to the vehicle fire at the Don Statter Harbor, Quinto said. The unattended vehicle was fully engulfed by the time the fire department arrived, and the fire was quickly extinguished.

The vehicle was a 1996 Chevy Blazer with an estimated value of $2,000 and is considered a total loss. The heat caused damage to the one side of the plastic trim on an adjacent vehicle, but there was no other damage to the rest of the unburned car, Quinto said.

The Fire Marshals are currently investigating the fire as suspicious. Anyone who might have information is encouraged to contact the Fire Marshal at Dan.Jager@juneau.org.
