At 4:50 a.m. on a Saturday, most Juneau residents are typically sleeping. On Oct. 15, Juneau Police Department Officer Jim Quinto was busy saving a life.

While working the night shift at the Juneau International Airport, Quinto heard a scream. He was standing by the TSA checkpoint at the time, and he saw a man who appeared to be having a seizure in the departure lounge.

According to JPD spokesperson Erann Kalwara, Quinto helped the man, whose name has not been released, down to the ground at which point the man stopped breathing. Quinto began performing CPR while TSA employees grabbed the automatic external defibrillator, or AED.

After shocking the man, Quinto noticed that he was beginning to breathe a little bit. Quinto continued CPR until paramedics arrived and took over, Kalwara told the Empire by email.

It’s not the first time Quinto has saved a life using CPR. In 2014, Quinto received a Life Saving Medal from JPD for using CPR to help revive a man who was found unconscious and without a pulse in front of the Lucky Lady.
