ANCHORAGE — The U.S. attorney for Alaska has submitted her resignation.
President Donald Trump on Friday requested the resignation of Karen Loeffler (LEF-lur) and 45 other U.S. attorneys appointed by President Barack Obama.
Loeffler submitted her resignation letter Monday.
Loeffler worked for the U.S. Department of Justice for 29 years, including the last eight as U.S. attorney for Alaska.
She says she first came to the department in January 1988 at the request of former U.S. Attorney Michael Spaan (span) to assist in the prosecution of corruption in North Slope Borough contracting.
She says in her announcement it’s been “the career of a lifetime” to represent her country in court and work with Alaskans to enhance justice and public safety.
