The Alaska Department of Transportation is planning to install new sidewalks and repair existing ones on 3rd Street in Douglas near Gastineau Elementary School.
The state announced the work in a public notice last week.
According to project documents, the work will entail adding a new sidewalk on the uphill side of 3rd Street near Gastineau Elementary, repairing existing sidewalk near the school, fixing two crosswalks and school zone signs near the school and fixing storm drains as needed.
The work is scheduled to be done this summer and will be funded by the City and Borough of Juneau as well as the federal government.
