Obamacare signup deadline today

Today is the deadline to sign up for Obamacare in 2016.

According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, open enrollment in the program began Nov. 1. Coverage will start Feb. 1.

According to figures provided by the federal government, 908 people in the City and Borough of Juneau signed up for health care insurance by Jan. 9.

In the Ketchikan Gateway Borough, the figure was 517. In Sitka, it was 432.

Skagway has seen 167 people sign up, and 282 people have signed up in the Haines Borough.

Statewide, according to the federal agency, 21,671 Alaskans have signed up or had their insurance automatically renewed.

To sign up for health insurance through the federal government, visit healthcare.gov.
