Juneau School District Superintendent Frank Hauser has announced that this school year will be the last for him in his role. June 30, 2026 will be his last day.

On Oct. 10, the superintendent announced his resignation after serving in the role since 2023. The news comes afer the board of education unanimously decided to extend his contract until 2028.

“I will always hold a special place in my heart for the amazing people I work with every day, this district, and all of you,” he wrote in a message sent through the district’s mobile app.

“I would like to thank the Cabinet and District Office staff, in particular—a small, but mighty, group of dedicated professionals, whose hard work and sacrifices in service to this district are vital to its functioning but often go unrecognized.”

The message from Hauser included reflections on the last two years, particularly work done to expand on career technical education and Advanced Placement courses, as well as reducing the pupil-teacher ration for grades 4 to 6 and adding back counselors and interventionits, as well as maintaining the free breakfast program.

“Although continued vigilance is needed, yesterday the State Board of Education unanimously voted to take no action on DEED’s proposed regulation amendments and to direct the department to seek input and collaboration with stakeholders.”

At this time, Hauser said he does not have any plans quite yet on what hell be doing next.
