Winter weather conditions have given students at Juneau School District schools the day off on Monday, Dec. 15, along with delays and cancellations across the city.
The closures come as the National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for Juneau in effect until 6 p.m. this evening, forecasting additional snow accumulations of four to seven inches on top of the weekend’s snow.
Peak snowfall is expected at 9 a.m., at the earliest, particularly impacting downtown and Douglas.
“Travel will be very difficult,” the NWS warning stated. “The hazardous conditions could impact the morning commute.”
An email from the school district states that all classes, in person meetings and after school activities at the district’s schools are cancelled. Notification of the closures went out to families at 6 a.m. Monday according to an email from the district.
The Board of Education Special Meeting to award a search contract for the superintendent search will take place at noon on Zoom, as scheduled.
The City and Borough of Juneau announced this morning that all CBJ facilities will have a delayed opening at 1 p.m. Busses will continue to operate on snow routes.
The University of Alaska Southeast Juneau also announced that the campus will be operating remotely today. All campus buildings will be closed.
