Juneau police 9-1-1 system experiencing technical issues

The issues were resolved later that evening, police say.

This story has been updated.

Technical issues with the Juneau Police Department’s 9-1-1 system Thursday temporarily prevented dispatchers from responding to calls as they came in for a few hours Thursday afternoon, according to department officials. At about 7 p.m. later that evening the system was working properly again.

According to a JPD Facebook post shared Thursday afternoon, “calls are not audibly ringing into the dispatch center.” However, once the caller hangs up dispatch is then notified of the call and promptly calls back.

“We’re not missing many calls, but we are not getting to them very timely — it’s a very strange situation,” said JPD spokesperson Erann Kalwara, noting this particular issue has not occurred before at JPD.
