JPD vehicle involved in collision at Douglas Bridge that closes part of Egan Drive for three hours

Officer treated and released at hospital for injuries, passenger of other car released at scene.

A Juneau Police Department patrol car was involved in a two-vehicle collision on Egan Drive at the intersection of the Douglas Bridge on Monday night, with the officer treated for injuries at Bartlett Regional Hospital, according to a JPD statement issued Tuesday evening. The accident resulted in part of Egan Drive being closed for three hours.

The collision occurred at about 9:26 p.m. at the intersection of Egan Drive and 10th Street, according to JPD. The JPD officer was driving a 2017 Ford Taurus patrol vehicle that collided with a white 2020 Honda CRV driven by a 16-year-old female.

“Prior to the collision, the patrol vehicle was driving inbound on Egan,” according to the JPD statement. “The Honda was driving outbound on Egan and had begun making a left hand turn toward the Douglas Bridge. The vehicles collided in the intersection.”

“Capital City Fire/Rescue responded to evaluate both drivers. The police officer was transported by ambulance to BRH where he was treated and has since been released. The female driver was evaluated on scene and released to family.”

Both vehicles sustained substantial damage and were towed from the scene, according to JPD. The accident remains under investigation.

Inbound lanes of Egan Drive were closed to through traffic for about three hours. The outbound lanes of Egan between Gold Creek and 10th Street were closed to through traffic for about 2½ hours.
