At about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, a search team found a group of five hikers near Mendenhall Lake after the group became lost while hiking West Glacier Trail and called for help.
About three hours earlier, the five hikers — Doug Campbell 31, and Clare Campbell 26, of Juneau; and Kimberly Walker 31, Jordan Dahl 21, and Jessica Walker 22, of Anchorage — “lost the trail in the fading light” and spoke with Alaska State Troopers via phone to identify their whereabouts, according to troopers who passed the info along to local rescuers.
A search team consisting of members from Juneau Mountain Rescue and SouthEast Alaska Dogs Organized for Ground Search, more commonly known as SEADOGS, found the missing hikers and escorted them back to the trailhead.
