Through the long Fourth of July weekend, there will be a number of street closures planned for the various activities taking place.

In Douglas, road closures will be on tap for the Soapbox Derby on July 3-4. The location of the race is on St. Ann’s Avenue from Summers Street down to Third Street. Timed trial races will take place on July 3 from 6 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m. The race finals will start on July 4 immediately after the parade until approximately 6 p.m.

Starting at noon July 3, St. Ann’s Avenue from Summers to Third streets will be closed to vehicular traffic. The road will remain closed to traffic until approximately 9 p.m. on July 4. During this time, the road will be barricaded and both edges of St. Ann’s Avenue will be lined with tires.

Any vehicles parked on St. Ann’s Avenue from Summers to Third streets will be impounded at the owner’s expense. Impounded vehicles will not be available for pickup until July 5.

The Douglas Fourth of July parade will begin at 2 p.m. The route is from Third at I streets to Savikko Park Road. Third Street will be posted “No Parking” from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. During this period of time, traffic will be routed into Douglas on Fourth Street and out of Douglas on Second Street. To accommodate this, Second Street will be posted as one way northbound, and Fourth Street will be posted as one way southbound. “No Parking” signs will be posted on Second, Third and Fourth streets.

Any vehicle parked on the above-listed streets will be cited and impounded at the owner’s expense. Impounded vehicles will not be available for pickup until July 5. The Douglas Boat Harbor area will be available for parking.

Juneau road closures

The Juneau Fourth of July parade will begin at 11 a.m. at the Department of Labor building on West Eighth Street. The parade route is as follows:

The parade will begin at Egan Drive and West Eighth Street. It will travel on Egan Drive via the outbound lanes to Main Street, then will turn right onto Front Street and right onto Franklin Street to the traffic circle. The parade will then head outbound on Egan Drive via the inbound lanes to West Eighth Street.

All those streets will be closed to vehicular traffic starting at approximately 10:25 a.m. and will be posted with “No Parking” signs in effect from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Due to the large volume of July Fourth foot traffic, the streets surrounding the parade route become very congested. For the safety of those participating and watching the parade, all traffic will be held until the parade is complete and has passed the 10th Street and Egan Drive intersection. The road closure is expected to last until approximately 1:30 p.m. All streets and parking lots within the parade route boundary will also be closed to vehicular traffic during this time.

The Glenn Frick Memorial Run will take place on July 4, beginning at approximately 10:30 a.m. The race will be held approximately a half-hour prior to the parade and will follow the same parade route. The race will begin near Egan Drive at Gold Creek Bridge. The following streets will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 10:25 a.m.: Egan Drive, Main Street, Front Street, South Franklin Street, Marine Way. The race will last approximately 20 minutes, and all racers will be clear of the roadway by 10:50 a.m.
