The National Park Service has announced that students from five Southeast schools will be transported free to Glacier Bay National Park this spring as part of the White House’s “Every Kid in a Park” program.
On Thursday, Glacier Bay National Park announced that fourth-graders from Hoonah City School, Gustavus School, Angoon School, Tenakee School and Klukwan will be flown and ferried to the park with money from the National Park Foundation.
The students will learn about the park system and explore the Huna Tribal House before its grand opening in the summer. In a statement, the park said that “Glacier Bay National Park hopes that this program will provide underserved and Native Alaskan youth with an opportunity to Find Your Park and become NPS stewards as the Service enters its second century.”
