Concerned call leads to arrest

The Juneau Police Department is continuing its investigation into a mid-day disturbance near the Bergmann Hotel after a woman suffered a possible knife injury Wednesday.

Officers arrested Dakota Anthony Gallant, 25, the boyfriend of a 30-year-old Juneau woman, for a domestic violence related assault in the third degree. It is a class ‘C’ felony that can carry up to five years in prison.

According to a JPD press release, at 12:30 p.m. a woman called 911 to report a couple arguing in the downtown hotel. She told police a knife was involved, and she believed a man “slashed at the woman.”

Deputy Chief of Police Ed Mercer said Wednesday the woman who was arguing with her boyfriend did suffer an injury to her arm but that the exact cause of injury could not be disclosed. The investigation is ongoing.

On the scene were three police cars, an ambulance and a Capital City Fire/Rescue unit. Mercer said the units were used to help control the scene.

Gallant was arraigned Thursday afternoon at the Juneau Courthouse. Gallant has a second open case in the court system related to a December trespassing.
