Business owners and community leaders in Juneau are being “locked up” on April 21 at The Hangar on the Wharf while they raise money for “bail” to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Alaska.
Funds raised will help kids and adults with muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and other related diseases that take away physical strength and mobility.
City Manager Rorie Watt is one of the volunteers who’ll go behind bars. During the event, Watt and other participants — or “jailbirds” — will be locked up for one hour as they attempt to raise bail by calling on their friends, family and coworkers to contribute money.
Bail money raised will help MDA fund research and programs, such as support groups and clinical care. MDA has a care center in Anchorage. Money will also help send kids to MDA summer camp.
