A Juneau grand jury on Wednesday indicted the man who police arrested Saturday after allegedly trying to burglarize a Mendenhall Valley home — a home he reportedly mistook for his brother’s.
Demetrius Z. Campos, 21, faces a felony burglary charge after supposedly trying to enter a home in the 2500 block of Teslin Street around 3 a.m. on Saturday. Two residents inside told police Campos first tried entering their home by climbing halfway through their laundry room window, according to a police complaint. Campos allegedly told the couple inside he was going to “kick their (expletive)” for being inside his brother’s house.
One man inside the home told police he was “scared for his family” after hearing several obscenities and threats, so he used the butt of a rifle to ward off Campos, the police complaint reads. Campos then allegedly tried to enter the home through a living room window but failed.
Police said they found Campos 15 minutes after arriving on the scene and Campos told officers he did make verbal threats because he thought there were strangers in his brother’s home.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in that incident.
First-degree burglary is punishable by up to 10 years in prison although first time offenders typically face a range of one to three years. Online court records show this is Campos’ first criminal offense in Alaska. Only two other minor offenses appear on his record in Alaska for underage alcohol consumption in 2011 and 2014.
Campos made a felony appearance in Juneau Superior Court on Thursday, and a trial is scheduled for Nov. 28.
Other indictments
• The second man police arrested Saturday for burglary was also indicted Wednesday. Kurtis Detemple, 23, was indicted for felony burglary after allegedly entering the Safeway Supermarket around 3 a.m. on Saturday, while employees were still inside.

According to a police complaint, Detemple destroyed a large portion of a store window then left with several items. Police arrested Detemple as he was exiting the store. Officers later viewed store security footage that showed Detemple committing the burglary and leaving with the stolen items, the police complaint reads.
Detemple has previously pleaded guilty to multiple misdemeanor offenses between 2013 and 2016 in Juneau, including charges for trespassing, disorderly conduct, criminal mischief, larceny and assault, according to online court records.
The second-degree burglary felony charge Detemple faces is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Detemple made a felony appearance for the felony burglary charge in Juneau Superior Court on Thursday.
• Brandon D. Woody, 28, was indicted by a Juneau grand jury for felony vehicle theft allegedly committed in Yakutat. According to a Yakutat police complaint, around 6 a.m. on Saturday, Woody entered a storage building at the City and Borough of Yakutat’s power plant, broke a light bulb and then stole a city-owned truck.
Police said Woody blew a 0.135 during an alcohol breath test at the police station. The legal limit is 0.08.
First-degree vehicle theft is punishable by up to five years in prison.
Woody was scheduled to make a felony appearance in Juneau Superior Court on Thursday, but online records did not indicate if it took place by the end of the business day.
