President Barack Obama ordered the U.S. flag be flown at half-staff at the White House and on federal grounds and government properties to mark the death of former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres. Construction continues on the Alaska State Capitol in the background.

Alaska flags lowered to honor former Israeli PM

Gov. Bill Walker on Thursday ordered Alaska flags to be lowered to half-staff in honor of former Israeli President and Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who died of a stroke this week.

The order was announced by email.

Walker’s announcement follows one by President Barack Obama, who ordered U.S. flags to be lowered until sunset Friday in honor of Peres.

The Alaska flag will follow the same schedule.
