$24,000 worth of narcotics stolen from Bethel clinic

BETHEL — Authorities are investigating after an estimated $24,000 in narcotics was reported stolen from a Bethel clinic.

The break-in at the federally funded Bethel Family Clinic happened sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, said Latesia Guinn, the clinic’s executive director. In addition to the narcotics, she said, $300 in cash and syringes were also taken, KYUK-AM reported.

Employees had arrived at the clinic to find the front door busted, the safe forced open and glass from the pharmacy door shattered across the floor.

Police examined the crime scene Saturday and are continuing their investigation.

Guinn said she saw one pair of tracks that led in and out of the building, leading her to believe that there was only one suspect.

“We had fresh snow that day,” she said. “They’re the only tracks that were coming into the clinic.”

Guinn said the information technology department is reviewing security camera footage and plans to install new surveillance equipment.

“We’re putting security camera in,” she said. “We did have some but we don’t know if they’re a high enough quality to get anything off of them.”

The clinic is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to a conviction of the person responsible for the theft.

“We all feel very violated,” said Guinn. “This is our other home. This is where we spend a lot of hours of our day. This is where we take care of people.”
