Science Friday: Learn to Awaken the Force, 1–3 pm Friday, Jan. 15, Mendenhall Valley Public Library. Join staff to learn about force and motion. Participants will build starships and experiment with the force by using thrust and pressure. There will also be an appearance by members of the 501st Legion: Vader’s Fist, a group of professional Star Wars role players. Fireside Lecture: Secretive Kittlitz’s Murrelets, 6:30 and 8 pm Friday, Jan. 15, Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center. US Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Michelle Kissling researches Kittlitz’s Murrelets, rare stocky seabirds endemic to Alaska and Russia. Discover their association with ice. Woosh Kinaadeiyí Spoken Word Workshop, 1–4 pm Sunday, Jan. 17, Kindred Post, 145 S Franklin St. Spoken word artists Christy NaMee Eriksen and Dee Jay DeRego will guide participants through writing exercises, speaking/performance exercises, revision, and feedback in a supportive, inclusive environment.
