United Way of Southeast Alaska elects Board Members

United Way of Southeast Alaska recently held its annual meeting, at which time the board acknowledged and recognized outgoing board members, elected new board members and elected officers for the coming year.

Current board members Ann Gifford (Secretary), Mark Mesdag (Chair of the Board) and Robbie Stell were re-elected to the board for three-year terms with terms expiring in 2019. Bill Peters was elected as Treasurer.

Additionally elected to the board to serve a two-year term was Joy Lyon as the small agency representative to the board. Lyon is the executive director of AEYC-SEA. AEYC is a long time United Way partner agency. Lyon has served on the Board since November 2014.

Rustan Burton, who has stepped down from the chair position but remains on the board and is also the publisher of the Juneau Empire, thanked the re-elected board members for their willingness to serve, noting that “our board members bring with them great energy and talents that will serve United Way well.”

Leaving the board at the completion of her term was past chair Karen Crane. “We will miss Karen and her perspectives on education and business in Southeast. We appreciate her service to United Way of Southeast Alaska,” said chair Mark Mesdag.

One of the first items of business for the new board will be to review the current strategic plan and set direction for the organization for the coming year while maintaining the ongoing programs United Way of Southeast Alaska delivers.
