TMHS February student recognition

Thunder Mountain High School recognized six students during the month of February.

Science teacher Kristen Wells nominated senior Makayla Harp.

“Makayla has stepped up this year, and is finding success for her efforts,” Wells said. “She is on top of her class-work and challenging herself outside of school as well! Way to go!”

Math teacher Carol May nominated senior Jordan Cooper.

“Jordan has shown outstanding leadership in robotics for four years,” May said. “She manages a large team, and can cheerfully delegate according to team members’ strengths. She sees the big picture, and plans out the steps to get there. At the Southeast regional tournament, many coaches and judges noticed her outstanding leadership abilities. One community professional commented that she is the exact type of person he would hire as a project leader.”

English teacher Chris Knight nominated sophomore Ivan Williams.

“Great student, great participant and offers a positive and humorous intelligence to school,” Knight said.

Yearbook teacher Janna Lelchuk nominated sophomore Hannah Elizarde.

“Hannah is one awesome yearbook creator,” Lelchuk said. “Nobody can work as fast as she does. Her pages are bright, bold, professionally looking. She is a great designer. This yearbook will be a success because of students like Hannah!”

Teacher Adriana Northcutt added, “I have been greatly impressed by Hannah’s commitment and hard work. Although she a very quiet student, she always goes above and beyond the general expectations and shows a deep understanding of the content. She is a very sweet and kind person and I have greatly enjoyed having her in my class this year!”

Principal Dan Larson nominated senior Kevin Allen.

“Kevin Allen has been present at community meetings as a TMHS Student Council representative,” Larson said. “Recently there was a JSD budget meeting held at JDHS in which all Juneau stakeholders were invited; school board members, cabinet members, teachers, administrators, parents, site council members, students, etc… I am proud to say that Kevin is the only high school student who felt it was important enough to attend. I am proud of what Kevin had to offer the group.”

English teacher Patrick Roach nominated freshman Simon Smith.

“Simon is a very hard worker and a great student,” Roach said. “He always contributes in class, and whenever he finishes his work early, he helps his peers with theirs. He also comes to class with a smile and a great attitude.”
