Thanks for community contribution for film fundraiser

Belated though it may be, we wish to recognize those who contributed to the success of our community fundraiser for Lisle Hebert’s film, “Yuuyaraq: The Way of the Human Being,” a docu-drama depicting the health and spiritual afflictions of the Yupik people, their struggle to adapt to an alien culture and their efforts to heal.

An overflowing, standing-room only crowd attended the potluck on Dec. 16 at St. Ann’s Parish Hall. For their generous donations of “out-cry auction” items, we thank John Dunlap and Lennie Gorsuch (Allen Marine), Dawn Wolfe and Bob Janes (Gastineau Guiding), Tim McDonnell (TEMSCO Helicopters) and Holly Bierkortte Johnson (Wings of Alaska-Taku Glacier Lodge). We also thank Beverly Kerr and the Chilton family for the donation of Tlingit silver earrings and matching pendant, outcry auctioneer Andy Kline, and DJ Steve Nelson.

For the donations to the silent auction, we thank Alaskan Brewing, Colleen Goldrich (Annie Kaills), Art Sutch Photography & Digital Imaging, Rachel Beck, Holly Cockerille, Karen Crane, Jay Crondahl, Amy Fletcher, Joe Geldorf, Kimberly Glasow, Dennis Harris, Martha Hopson, Janet Lassiter, Sally McLaughlin, Marjorie Menzi, Ann Metcalfe, Connie Munro, Fate Putman, Mike Race, Sue and Jeff Sloss, Deborah Smith, Mike Stark, MJ Grande, Kathy Ruddy, Misty Savage and Kimberly Homme.

We thank the volunteers who set up, decorated, kept records and cleaned-up: Judy Crondahl, Katharine Heumann, Kristin Cladouhos McTague, Nellie, Lynn, Luke and Sandy Metcalfe, Patrice (“Tissy” Metcalfe) Parker and Deborah Smith.

For their contribution and operation of the digital projector, thank you Alaska Robotics (Aaron Suring, Patrick Race and Lou Logan).

Thank you to the community chefs who provided the epicurean delights, and to St. Ann’s Parish Hall (and Sister Marie) for the venue. It was perfect!

We also want to thank the Juneau Empire, Juneau Radio Center and K-3 radio stations for helping us get out the word.

Finally, we’re happy to announce we were able to raise almost $13,000 that evening which, when added to Kickstarter and Indie-GoGo campaigns, has enabled Lisle to finish this film in record time.

Thank you, Juneau, for once again coming together and demonstrating why we all love living here.

On behalf of our dear friend (and Claire’s spouse) Lisle Hebert, thanks to all!

Peter Metcalfe, Kim Metcalfe, Sharon Gaiptman and Claire Richardson
