Stamp Out Hunger was held Saturday, May 13, 2017. The largest single day food drive in the nation, the event celebrated its 25th anniversary this year.
Helping Hands would like to thank every single person who helped or donated food. It was another successful Stamp Out Hunger food drive, again demonstrating the generosity of our community.
Helping Hands appreciate and thank the letter carriers and the U.S. Postal Service for their dedication and hard work during this event, which provides wonderful support for our local food banks as they collected food donations. A special thank you to Mark Piotrowski for all his work to get the hampers to the stores and coordinating to make it a successful food drive.
We collected 5,136 pounds of food during the one-day nationwide food drive. This time of the year tends to be slow for donations and the Stamp Out Hunger campaign gives Helping Hands a greatly needed boost to food on the shelves and ultimately to our neighbors struggling to feed their families. The outpouring of kindness from people continues to amaze me.
Helping Hands would also like to thank Foodland IGA, Rainbow Foods, Fred Meyer, Super Bear IGA, and Safeway for allowing us to place the postal hampers in their stores so shoppers can purchase food while shopping.
We would also like to thank Joshua Cooper of Papa John pizza for donating the pizza to feed all the employees of the United States Postal Service who worked so hard to bring the food in the post office for it to be weighed.
We would like to also thank the Juneau Empire, Jeff Brown from KTOO, Sharon Gaiptman from KINY, and Taku 105.5 radio stations for the advertising the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
We really appreciate everyone who stepped up to help out this year. Stamp Out Hunger is very much about neighbors helping neighbors, and I’m proud of the way the community came together. We look forward to partnering with you again on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
