Southeast Alaska Food Bank thanks Alaska USA Foundation

The Southeast Alaska Food Bank board of directors and our volunteers are very pleased and appreciative of the $21,000 donation from the the Alaska USA Foundation. Lance Stevens, area vice president of the Foundation presented Board President Dennis Watson and Food Bank Manager Darren Adams with the check in November.

This donation will allow the Southeast Alaska Food Bank to continue its efforts to serve families and individuals in our community who may need assistance in securing healthy and nutritious food. The Food Bank could not achieve its goal without the generosity and support of organizations such as the Alaska USA Foundation.

The Alaska USA Foundation was established in 2003 to support 501(c)(3) charitable organizations that provide needs-based services to children, veterans, and active duty members of the military and their families. Since its inception, the Foundation has distributed more than $1.5 million to these organizations and is honored to assist those that provide direct services in support of its mission.

The donation to the Southeast Alaska Food Bank was part of a larger, statewide fundraiser by Alaska USA Federal Credit Union members and the Alaska USA Foundation. In total, members and the Foundation raised $80,400 to support community food banks across the state, as part of its annual Cash for Cans food drive. The Southeast Alaska Food Bank is grateful to be one of the food banks to receive such a generous donation.

In 2016, the Southeast Alaska Food Bank provided over 279,000 pounds of food to local food pantries, nonprofit organizations, and members of the community through the efforts of our Food Bank Manager and our dedicated volunteers, and through donations like this one from the Alaska USA Foundation. We would like to thank everyone for the continued support.
