Girls and boys empowerment running programs to run 5k

Girls on the Run’s and Boys Run: I toowú klatseen’s 10-week programs culminate in a 5k run on Saturday, Dec. 3. Fifty-eight girls from Gastineau Elementary, Glacier Valley Elementary, Auke Bay Elementary and Montessori Borealis and 26 boys from Mendenhall River Community School and Montessori Borealis will participate in the run, which is titled, “You Rock!”

The 5K will be held at Dimond Park Field House at 2961 Riverside Drive. For Girls on the Run, festivities begin at 10 a.m. and the fun run starts at 10:30 a.m. For Boys Run, festivities begin again at 1 p.m. with the fun run at 1:30 p.m.

AWARE is currently seeking volunteers to help make the event a success. AWARE also invites runners and walkers to come join in and build positive energy for the participants as they run their miles.
