National Alliance on Mental Illness Alaska was awarded a Premera Social Impact Grant to connect Alaskans affected by mental illness with online support. NAMI’s mental health and caregiver support groups will be offered online and in real time using a platform called Support Groups Central.

“We appreciate this generous grant from the Premera Social Impact Program to help connect people from all parts of Alaska to vital peer-led support,” said Sheila Harris, volunteer executive director for NAMI Alaska. “This is a resource where geography is not a barrier and people can connect and discover that they are not alone.”

NAMI Alaska’s first online support group is focused on family members and caregivers affected by mental illness. Within the next few months, NAMI Alaska will add a support group for adults living with mental illness. Alaskans can access the groups at www.supportgroupscentral.com/NMAK or learn more by calling (907)272-0250.
