Alaska Community Foundation announces $164,000 in grants

The Alaska Community Foundation has announced 13 grant awards totaling $164,000 to meet basic needs in 10 communities across Alaska. This competitive grant cycle is the first of its kind for ACF.

In Southeast Alaska, Becky’s Place Haven of Hope in Haines received a grant, as did Women in Safe Homes of Ketchikan. The grants are made possible by several of ACF’s funds: The Schwantes Fund, The Alaska Fund, The Caroline Christen Torgerson Memorial Fund, The Marcia Hastings Fund, The Fund for the Homeless, and The Jane H. Behlke Fund for the Elderly and the Hungry.

Other grant recipients around Alaska were Advocates for Victims of Violence, Inc., Valdez; Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission, Anchorage; Downtown Soup Kitchen, Anchorage; Fairbanks Rescue Mission, Inc., Fairbanks; Kenai Peninsula Food Bank, Kenai; Kids’ Kitchen, Anchorage; Mabel T. Caverly Senior Center, Inc., Anchorage; Maniilaq Association, Kotzebue; SAFE- Summer Services, Dillingham; Unalaskans Against Sexual Assault and Family Violence, Unalaska; and Upper Susitna Seniors, Inc., Upper Susitna.

Established in 1995, The Alaska Community Foundation is a statewide platform for philanthropy that connects people who care with causes that matter. Holding approximately $70 million in over 300 funds for the benefit of Alaskans, ACF grants $3-4 million each year to charitable projects and nonprofit organizations across the state.
