We don’t benefit from Pioneer Road

We disagree with Ben Brown’s statements about the Douglas Pioneer Road. He stated that “all Juneau residents will benefit from this road.” We take vigorous exception to that! We do not benefit from that road; we are not part of his “all.” Mr. Brown found that a walk along that road was “peaceful and calming.” We find that walk distressing and sad. We see that many large trees have been cut, ruining untallied red squirrel homes and caches, possibly some flying squirrel habitat, good wintering habitat for deer, and habitat for who knows how many birds. Small mammals were probably killed when this was built. Furthermore, easy access to this part of the forest will inevitably and soon lead to much more serious habitat destruction. The road will also become a dumping ground, like so many other local roads. Those are unhappy thoughts. Mr. Brown does not speak for us!
