Opinion: Begich only gubernatorial candidate to support net neutrality

Having been in IT for over two decades, I have seen the birth and explosion of the internet. I have run my own website from home for the last 10 years. Just last year, Donald Trump appointed the Federal Communications Commission chairman to push to overturn net neutrality. This has me gravely concerned and should concern anyone who uses any portion of the internet. Alaska has one of the most users per capita in the United States at 84 percent.

This policy reversal gives the ability of the richest internet players to control our equal access to internet speed, content and cost. This will affect how you and I use the internet. The web needs to be equal, giving all players the opportunity to either flourish or not.

Mark Begich is the only candidate for governor that supports net neutrality. He supports and advocates immediate fixes to state law to protect the privacy and freedom of the internet for Alaskans. We, as a country and as a state, need net neutrality to remain in place. That is why I’m voting for Begich.
