Celebrate Children’s Day

Children’s Day in Alaska is Sunday, June 11. The legislation was introduced by Rep. Cathy Munoz and signed into law by Gov. Bill Walker last year. It is a day to honor the most treasured gift in our lives — our children.

“Children’s Day was begun on the second Sunday of June in 1856 by the Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard, pastor of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts.” It is celebrated in 87 countries around the world, including Bangladesh, China, Cuba, Germany, India, both North and South Korea and of course America.

This is a great time to take our children on a picnic, hiking, out to their favorite restaurant, etc. It is a “holiday” to show our children they are important and loved. I hope everyone spends fun time with their kids on their special day.
