Wolf Dostal is the Juneau Empire’s player of the week.
Dostal, a senior at Juneau-Douglas High School, made 39 saves in a 5-1 loss to Dimond on Friday during the fourth annual Palmer Showdown Tournament. The senior was especially busy in the second period as the Lynx fired 20 shots on goal (Dostal saved 18).
Dostal’s fellow goaltenders were also put to the test last week. Junior Cody Mitchell started last Thursday against Colony and made 21 saves on 24 shots. Sophomore Dawson Hickok made 31 saves on 39 shots against West Anchorage on Saturday.
JDHS plays in its home opener against Palmer Friday at Treadwell Arena. Junior varsity drops the puck at 4:30 p.m.; varsity follows at 8 p.m. On Saturday, varsity hits the ice at 7:45 p.m. with the junior varsity game to follow immediately afterward.
