Frost-free Halloween forecast this year

Record-high 53 degrees is recorded at city airport

There’s no snow on the pumpkin, and there might not be any frost, either.

Juneau’s abnormally warm October set a record Sunday as temperatures reached 53 degrees at Juneau International Airport, the city’s official measuring station. The old record was 53, set in 1992, according to the National Weather Service.

Through Monday morning, October has averaged 45.9 degrees at the airport, three degrees above normal. Only seven nights at the airport have dipped below freezing.

The forecast for the rest of the week calls for highs in the 40s and lows in the upper 30s. Halloween is expected to be dry and mostly sunny.

Rainfall this month looks to finish slightly above normal. Through Monday morning, 10.04 inches of rain had been recorded at the airport this month. The normal for this point in the month is 7.91 inches.

On average, Juneau’s first snowfall arrives Nov. 4.
