Police ask public’s help in locating Raymond Sheppard, 76, last seen near his Mendenhall Valley home

A public alert seeking to locate Raymond Sheppard, 76, who was last seen leaving his home in the 8000 block of Aspen Avenue at about 9 a.m. Friday, was issued at midday by the Juneau Police Department. At about 1:30 p.m. a subsequent notice was sent stating he’d be found safe.

“Mr. Sheppard is described as being 5’04” tall, weighing approximately 180 pounds, with grey hair that is almost bald,” the JPD notice states. “He is believed to be wearing a blue baseball cap, blue jacket, grey pants, and uses a cane while walking.”

JPD states two reports have been received from people who possibly saw him between Duck Creek and Mall Road, and he might have been hitchhiking. One of the reports said a male matching Sheppard’s description was picked up by a woman driving a Subaru.
