Juneau Post 25 and Ketchikan Post 3 both fell to 0-2 at the 73rd Alaska Legion Baseball State Tournament on Saturday at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.
The No. 5 overall seed Midnight Suns fell 5-1 to No. 8 Eagle River and the No. 7 Kings fell 8-4 to No. 3 Wasilla Post 35.
Juneau is in the Denali Pool, in which No. 1 Service Post 28 is 2-0, No. 4 Chugiak Post 33 is 1-1 and Eagle River is 1-1.
The Midnight Suns conclude pool play at 7 p.m. Monday against Service. The top two in each pool advance to Tuesday’s semifinals, but with either Chugiak or Eagle River guaranteed to get to two wins, Juneau can’t make the semis.
Against the Wolves, Juneau fell into a 5-0 hole after four innings.
After scoring one run in a Friday loss to Chugiak, the Midnight Suns got their lone run Saturday in the seventh inning when Landon Simonson scored on an RBI from Jacob Katasse.
Marcus Mendoza was 2 for 2 for Juneau.
On the mound, Kasen Ludeman gave up three runs — one earned — on three hits in 2 1-3 innings.
Mendoza gave up two runs on three hits in 1 2-3 innings, while Micah Nelson pitched three scoreless innings, allowing three hits.
Ketchikan is in the Alyeska Pool, in which Wasilla is 2-0, No. 2 Kenai Post 20 is 1-0 and No.6 West Post 1 is 0-1.
The Kings conclude pool play at 1 p.m. Sunday with a game against West. To have a chance of advancing, Ketchikan must win that game and hope Kenai and West also finish 1-2.
The Road Warriors jumped to a 5-0 lead after three innings. The Kings came back with three runs in the fourth, but Wasilla answered with three in the bottom of the fourth. Ketchikan then scored one in the seventh.
The Kings had two hits in the game — RBIs by Owen Mendoza and Bryant Marquez.
Ayden Manabat got the start and went four innings, allowing eight runs — three earned — on seven hits in four innings.
Brady Kline finished with a pair of scoreless, hitless innings.
