Sunday, September 27

RUNNING

Home, 10 a.m. start (8:30-9 a.m. sign in), The 7th Annual Hasty Half Marathon at Sandy Beach in Douglas. Runners have choice of half marathon, 5K or 1-mile fun runs. No race fee but donations accepted to raise money in support of, and to raise awareness for, Suicide Prevention. Half Marathon sign in is from 8:30-9 a.m. at Sandy Beach. At 9:30 a.m. vans will take runners to the starting line at False Outer Point and the half marathon will begin at 10 a.m. Support stations will be set up at approximately miles 3, 5, 7, 9, and 11 and will have water, Gatorade, cliff shot energy gels and bananas. Sign in for the 5K and 1-Mile runs is at 11 a.m. at Sandy Beach and the races begin there at 11:30 a.m. The 5K and 1-Mile are out and back runs. Snacks and refreshments available in the shelter afterwards.

JUMP ROPE

Home, 3-5 p.m., Juneau Jumpers Open Gym at Glacier Valley Gymnasium. Ages 8 and up are invited to come practice for tryouts on October 4. Call Karen at 321-8987 for more information.

Every Tuesday, starting in October, Basketball Officials Meeting (October 6, 13, 20, 27 and Nov. 3) from 6-8 p.m., room C-105 at Thunder Mtn High School. Discussion of rules & mechanics as preparation for the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS) certification exam. All interested in officiating are encouraged to attend. For more information call Joel Osburn 209-7897. Time to put the Marvelous Mystery Oil on whhistles and dust off the zebra stripes. High school basketball officials are in demand this season.
