Legion state tourney Day 3: Ketchikan falls to West to finish at 0-3

Ketchikan Post 3 lost 9-5 to West Post 1 on Sunday at the 73rd Alaska Legion Baseball State Tournament at Mulcahy Stadium in Anchorage.

The Kings, the No. 7 overall seed, end the tournament by finishing 0-3 in the Alyeska Pool.

The No. 6 Eagles took control at the outset by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first inning. Ketchikan was able to cut it to 9-5 with four runs in the fourth, but could produce no runs after that.

Ace Asper went 2 for 3 with two runs for the Kings, while Ben Phillips was 2 for 4 and Ayden Manabat had three RBIs.

On the mound for the Kings, Julian Paule yielded eight runs on five hits in one-third of an inning. Brady Kline was solid in relief, giving up a run on seven hits in 5 2-3 innings.

Juneau Post 25 plays Service Post 28 at 7 p.m. Monday, but the Midnight Suns are 0-2 and can’t advance out of the Denali Pool.
